If someone discloses illness, injury, harm, or hardship to you, the best first step is to connect them with support.
If the situation seems to be an emergency, call 911.
Otherwise, you can make a compassionate referral to campus support resources.
- For mental health (including grief and trauma): Counseling & Psychological Services(link is external) at UHS (for students) or Employee Assistance(link is external) at UHS (for employees).
- For pregnancy, eating disorders, substance issues: Social Services(link is external) at UHS (for students).
- For illness, or injury: students can receive urgent care at University Health Services(link is external).
- For sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH), the SVSH hub site(link is external) has detailed information about supporting survivors(link is external) while also fulfilling your Responsible Employee(link is external) reporting obligations. You or the survivor can call the 24/7 Care Line (510-643-2005) for urgent confidential support.
- For basic needs:
- The Basic Needs Center(link is external) assists students with needs ranging from financial, access to food; safe housing; health care; techology, and transportation.
- Employees in urgent financial need can apply for an emergency loan(link is external).
