As an academic leader, you have an opportunity to shape a healthy climate within your academic unit.
This includes:
- Setting, communicating, and modeling expectations for how people conduct and express themselves in your unit, consistent with Berkeley's Principles of Community
- Working with your equity advisors and climate committee on departmental climate initiatives
- Seeking out supportive interventions to help with climate issues in the department
Offices that can help you with any or all of this include:
- the Blueprint for Healthy Departments program within the Office for Faculty Equity & Welfare
- the Office for Faculty and Departmental Initiatives within the Division of Equity & Inclusion
- the Office for Staff Engagement and Belonging and the People and Organizational Development team, both within People & Culture
- the Office for Graduate Diversity, within the Graduate Division.
Additional resources can be found in the Community and Belonging Resources section of Supportal and on the website of the PATH to Care Center.
It doesn't matter where you start; these campus partners are connected to one another (and others), and can steer you to the right resource for your needs.
You don't have to do everything; but anything you do will move your unit in the right direction.
