As an academic leader, you have an opportunity to shape a healthy climate within your academic unit.
This includes:
- Setting, communicating, and modeling expectations for how people conduct and express themselves in the department, consistent with Berkeley's Principles of Community(link is external)
- Working with your equity advisors and climate committee on DEIB initiatives
- Seeking out interventions to help with climate issues in the department
Offices that can help you with any or all of this include the Office for Faculty Equity & Welfare(link is external); the Office for Faculty and Departmental Diversity Initiatives(link is external), the Restorative Justice Center(link is external), and the PATH to Care Center(link is external), all within the Division of Equity & Inclusion; the Office for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging(link is external) and the Organizational Development Team(link is external), both within People & Culture; and the Office for Graduate Diversity(link is external), within the Graduate Division.
It doesn't matter where you start; these campus partners are connected to one another (and others), and can steer you to the right resource for your needs.
You don't have to do everything; but anything you do will move your unit in the right direction.
