Travel booking best practices have changed over the years. Stay up to date (and save your staff time) by learning what the current best practices are.
- For information about purchasing airline tickets, renting a car, arranging lodging, or making other arrangements for work-related travel, the best place to start is the Travel website(link is external).
- Employees traveling on university-related business should take full advantage of the UC system-wide ConnexUC travel program(link is external). ConnexUC offers all of the same pricing found on popular travel sites, plus exclusive UC negotiated discounts that take advantage of the buying power of the combined UC system (with some minor exceptions(link is external)).
- Comprehensive travel insurance(link is external) is automatically included with all ConnexUC reservations, as are other special perks that UC airline, hotel and rental car contracts provide to campus business travelers. (To learn more about those benefits, visit the Why Use ConnexUC(link is external) page.)
- The Sustainable Travel Guide(link is external) offers instructions for how to book your air travel by selecting flights with the lowest CO2 emissions. When booking rental cars through ConnexUC, you can get access to all-electric or hybrid vehicles at participating locations that will meet UC Travel policy guidelines for reimbursement.
Certain destinations require registration, pose risks, and may require special permission.
- Trip registration is required for all university-related foreign travel, regardless of State Department Travel Advisory Level or travel purpose. (Travel booked via ConnexxUC(link is external) is automatically registered.)
- Work-related travel to international destinations that have been deemed risky requires special permission. You can read more on this site(link is external)
- Other destinations also pose risks that it is important to be aware of. Read more about risks and travel insurance(link is external).
