Fair hiring practices involve a lot of steps. Understanding how to execute each of these steps correctly will save your unit a lot of time.
Which administrative unit oversees the hiring process depends on the type of employee you are seeking to hire.
- For faculty recruitment (both Senate and non-Senate) as well as postdocs, the Office of Faculty Equity & Welfare oversees the process; their recruitment website is a great place to start.
- Faculty appointment cases are processed by the Academic Personnel Office. This section of BMAP contains useful information on various aspects of the appointment process (e.g., step and salary at appointment, inter-campus transfers, important deadlines).
- The FTE allocation process is described on the OFEW website. This includes requests to change level or areaof a search, requesting off-cycle FTE, and the on-cycle FTE process
- For non-academic staff: People & Culture's "Talent Acquisition" website is a great place to start. You'll work closely with your HR partner (Find your HR partner).
- Students: for work-study, this website for on-campus employers is a great place to start. To post a position for all students, not just work-study, the Berkeley Career Engagement employer website is a good starting point.
- You can also reach all undergraduate students by sharing your position on the Discovery Opportunities Database, UC Berkeley’s centralized tool for our undergraduates to search for research, internships, and/or scholarships beyond the classroom.
